The 2017 Friends of the Hockessin Library Used Book Sale, held from January 26th through 29 at the Memorial Hall - Hockessin Fire Co., was a tremendous success! Under the dedicated leadership of Co-Chairmen David Goldsworthy and Larry Thurrell, 250 volunteers transported processed displayed and sold nearly 50,000 books. The outstanding efforts of area high school students kept the book tables neat and orderly and provided assistance to the record number of shoppers who supported the library with their purchases. The Friends are deeply grateful to our generous donors who provided over 50,000 books, CD's, books on tape, and VHS tapes; to our enthusiastic volunteers; to our faithful patrons and to our loyal corporate partners, Acme, RMS Spawning Company and Serpes Bakery. Assistance from the Delaware Department of Corrections who helped unload two trailers of books and tapes for set-up before the sale is also greatly appreciated.

Funds raised from the sale, which started in 1978, provide the Hockessin Library with equipment, staff support, books, periodicals, audio/visuals, E-books, supplies for the children's and adult Summer Reading Programs, the development and maintenance of a Reading Garden.

As in the past, books that didn't sell were gifted to local non-profits including the Wilmington VA Medical Center, area children's charities, retirement and nursing homes and Stockings for Soldiers. Suggestions for other local recipients are always welcome.

Prospective volunteers are contacted in December and January. Any amount of time you donate is greatly appreciated.
